Pricing Analysis

Compare competitor prices before changing your own.

Understand How Similar Apps Charge

Pricing Analysis summarizes the pricing information available for your tracked competitors. It helps you see the range of offers around your app before picking a price or changing how you explain a paid feature.

Start by adding relevant apps in Competitors. The comparison is only useful if the products serve reasonably similar needs.

Read More Than the Download Price

The overview shows the distribution of app prices, followed by individual apps and available purchase details. An app that costs nothing to download may still sell subscriptions or in-app purchases, so "Free" doesn't necessarily tell the whole story.

Check the purchase summary and catalog where they're available. If information is missing or the offer isn't clear, check the App Store yourself before treating it as a direct comparison.

You might find that one competitor charges upfront, another sells an annual plan, and a third includes only a small free feature set. Those are very different offers even when the apps look similar at first glance.

Compare the Value

Ask yourself what someone gets for the price: how often they'll use it, which features are included, and whether the offer is easy to understand.

A more expensive app can still make sense if it solves a more valuable problem. Equally, a confusing set of tiers may be a chance to make your own offer simpler.

Use the Research Carefully

Write down the reason for any pricing experiment in Journal, then use your own revenue and subscription data to check back on it later. Competitor prices tell you what's on offer; they don't reveal competitors' revenue or prove which price your customers will accept.

For differences between countries, Purchasing Power Parity explores a separate question: how affordable a price may feel in different markets.
