App Icon Sizes for iOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS

The icon sizes Apple's platforms actually need.

The essentials

Platform What you need
App Store (all platforms)1024 × 1024 – your master artwork, no transparency for iOS
iOS / iPadOSA single 1024 master in Xcode's asset catalog generates all runtime sizes (180, 120, and the rest)
macOSIcon set at 16, 32, 128, 256, and 512 points, each @1x and @2x (16×16 through 1024×1024), artwork inset per Apple's macOS icon grid (If you're not sure, just overlay one of Apple's icons!)
watchOS1024 master; Xcode generates the watch-specific sizes
tvOSLayered parallax icon built from front/middle/back layers
visionOSLayered circular icon from a 1024 master, front and back layers

Details and current requirements live in Apple's Human Interface Guidelines for app icons – but if your 1024×1024 master is right, everything else is easy.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can Kickstart make my app icon?

Kickstart creates a polished placeholder in seconds: choose an SF Symbol or emoji, add colors, patterns, and badges, then export every size for all five Apple platforms. Use it for development builds while your final artwork is still taking shape; Apple's rules don't allow SF Symbol icons on the App Store.

Do I still need to export dozens of icon sizes?

Mostly no – Xcode's single-size option covers iOS from one 1024 master. macOS is the main platform still wanting a full ladder, because small sizes benefit from hand-tuned simplification.
